Overview

Explore the exotic sites of Morocco’s imperial past. Starting from Marrakech, this eight-day tour offers an excellent introduction to Morocco’s cultural heritage and takes you to explore its four imperial cities. From the foot of High Atlas we travel to the Atlantic coast and stop in each city to visits its main monuments and historical sites.

Itinerary

Day 1

Pick up at Menara Airport in Marrakech and transfer to the hotel, where you will enjoy dinner and spend the night.

Day 2

After breakfast, we travel north to the economic capital, Casablanca, for a sightseeing tour of the “White City”. Walk through the narrow streets of the Medina and admire the architecture of United Square’s buildings and of Hassan II Mosque built on a rock platform in the sea.Visit also the Court House, various souks and the central market, the 13th century Habous district and the wealthy Cornice Boulevard of Ain Diab, where villas neighbor corporate headquarters. Optional lunch in scheduled in Mohammedia – Casablanca’s popular resort playground, where restaurants are renowned for their fish dishes.From Casablanca, we continue to Rabat, the capital of Morocco, where the evening will be at leisure. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Rabat.

Day 3

After breakfast, we begin the visit of the “Imperial garden city” with Kasbah Oudayas. Giving access to a 17th century palace with charming Andalusian gardens, the main gate of this Kasbah is one of the most beautiful in Morocco. Continue the tour with a visit of Hassan Tower (if completed, this mosque would have been the 2nd largest in the Islamic world) and the extraordinary walls of the Mechouar that surround the Royal Palace. Leaving Rabat, we travel east stopping on the way to visit Moulay Idriss, a sacred Islamic town named after Morocco’s most venerated saint, and the UNIESCO listed Roman ruins of Volubilis before reaching Meknes. The city was founded in the 17th century by Sultan Moulay Ismail and had over 50 palaces and 45km of exterior walls. Upon arrival to Meknes,lunch is optional before we start exploring the city and travel, later on, to Fez. Dinner and overnight stay in Fez.

Day 4

After breakfast, enjoy a full day of sightseeing in Fes, the oldest of the imperial cities. Visit the medieval Medina and religious Islamic centre, the Medersa or Islamic seminaries, Al-Karaouine Mosque and University (the oldest in the world) and the beautiful mosaic of Nejjarin Fountain. In the evening, explore the famous souks of the city. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 5

After breakfast, departure for Marrakech via the Berber village of Immouzer and ski resort town of Ifrane, which is known for its wood carving. We then continue to Beni Mellal for lunch before we reach Marrakech.Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 6

After breakfast, you will spend the whole day visiting Marrakech, known also as the “red city” for its red mud brick buildings. Founded by the Almoravides dynasty at the end of the 12th century, the city is located in the heart of a palm grove and surrounded by the impressive mountains of the High Atlas. Spend the morning discovering the souks and Djemaa El Fna square, a market during the day and a site for an endless parade of performers and entertainers at night. After lunch at the hotel, visit the Saadian Tombs, the Museum of Moroccan Arts hosted by Dar Si Said, the Menara and Agdal city gardens, the Koutoubia tower, and finally the Bahia Palace. In the evening you have the option to dine in a typical Moroccan restaurant with folklore show.

Day 7

After breakfast at the hotel, we drive west towards Essaouira, a charming town whose 18th century Portuguese port was fortified by a French architect inspired by the work of military engineer Vauban. Essaouira is well known for its artisans who produce unique handicrafts made of thuya tree roots. After the visit to the city, souk and shops, we drive back to Marrakech.

Day 8

The morning is at leisure for some last minute shopping or more sightseeing. Later in the day, transfer to the airport.
