Morocco, a land of contrasts. Vibrant, seductive and exciting, a place where shadows merge with sunlight, where sky and sea meet at the horizon. Contrasting colours dissolve into flickering kaleidoscope of blue, copper, red, green, ochre, silver and gold. A land bursting with the colours of life. Morocco, a place where magical colours blend in an irresistible pageant of light and shade.
More so, this country provides some of the most rewarding human experiences to be found anywhere. The multi-ethnic character, the particular customs, traditions and rituals are giving a unique multi-cultural identity and making of Morocco the homeland of harmony and gentle co existence.

We leave Meknes and travel to the ancient capital of Fez, via the two dramatic cities of Morocco’s remarkable past. Volubilis and Moulay Idriss. Both challenge the fundamentals of modern Jewish life: in Volubilis the ancient Roman city of which only the ruins of this once great city remain with its ties to the very origins of the Jewish Diaspora; and in Moulay Idriss on the sacred territory of Moroccan Islam where we can only approach the perimeter of the holy city and not enter into its inner sanctums. We end our day coming into the city of Fez to continue our Moroccan and Jewish stories. Dinner & Overnight in the Menzeh zalagh
The ancient city of Fez was home to one of the great Jewish communities of the medieval world. It was here that Maimonides came fleeing the travails of Spain and Isaac Al-Fasi built the community as one of the earliest centres of rabbinic scholarship outside Babylon. It is here that we confront the contrasting meanings of the Mellah and Jewish – Muslim separation as we visit the Ibn Danan Synagogue as well as the ancient Medrasa of Fez, one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in the world. But Fez is about the souk as well and not only issues of the mind. We will be entranced by the colour as we go through ‘souk therapy‘ the ancient cousin of ‘retail therapy’ in the twists and turns of the ancient bazaar. Sites include Fez El Bali: Foundouk Yahudi; Fez el Jedid: Bouannia Medersa, the Mellah; home of Maimonides / Ibn Maimun; Jewish Cemetery; Ibn Danan Synagogue.
